Burgundy is geographically a huge region located in south of Paris stretching from Chablis to Lyon .The wine region is divided in 4 subregions (known as departement) the Cote d'Or (including Cote de Beaume, Beaume ,Cote de nuit wine area), Saone et Loire (including Maconais ,cote Chalonnaise wine area), Yonne and Nievre. Great wines are produced in this French area such as Meursault and the Montrachets white wines or Pomard and Volnay red wines. So many fantastic wines are made in Beaune and Cote de nuit. The Pinot Noir is the only red grape variety in Burgundy wine region .Chardonnay and Aligote are the two main white grapes vaieties produce in this wine region. Although the Pinot Blanc  grape variety is used in the Puligny Montrachet appellation and Pinot gris within the  Mercurey appellation

Burgundy is a place, a sprit, a wine- in brief- a world; and so it has been for centuries .The French through the years did expandated the wine industry and developed a complexe setting of rules, regulations and boundaries in the wine industry. For Burgundy wine, the term is applied to classified vineyards and appellations, with Premier cru being the second-highest classification level, below that of Grand cruand above the basic village AOCs.
