Champagne can only be produced in the designated Champagne region of North East France. Other areas/countries may use the same method to make sparkling wine in which a secondary fermentation takes place in the same bottle as the first, but it cannot use the name Champagne - it is unique! The major grapes varieties used are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
