vintage 2012: Yquem 2012

 CHATEAU D'YQUEM:NO 2012 VINTAGE

After failing the post-harvest tasting test,it is confirmed that the world's most expensive sweet tasting wine producers, the Chateau D'Yquem, have opted out of producing a 2012 Sauternes, for the first time in twenty years.

Chateau spokeswoman Valerie Lailheugue, said:'It was a difficult decision to make, but the harvest tasting revealed unsatisfactory quality levels.'

The pressure was already on because of late harvesting.Poor weather in October also caused major grapevine problems for the Sauternes producers.

The Chateau de Fargues is also facing a difficult time, enduring its lowest yields for twelve years,as three quarters of its grape haul were left to rot. As estate manager Francois Amirault explained: 'There was an incredible sense of waste.' He also added, 'A third of the harvest will not be sold under theLur Saluces name.'

It will be easier however,to evaluate this at the end of the fermentation period.
